I ended up loving this version. I loved the performance of Charles Dance. When he removed his mask and Christine reacted, my heart bled for him. I also liked the actress who played Christine, Teri Polo.

Here it is on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100361/

I was able to find it on DVD at the library. Later I found a seller on Ebay who sells it new for about $5 from South Korea. It arrived very quickly and was good.

Excellent film. Bought mine from Amazon.com.

I too like this version. When Christine fainted I cried for his pain and humiliation. I hated to see him die. Poor unhappy Erik!

*SPOILER* After Erik took off his mask and saw Christine's reaction, when he walked away and screamed,
I wanted to double over and cry. It actually made me feel sick for a moment.
That's what Erik was feeling. God, that was such a heart-wrenching scene.
For me, that was the most emotional scene in the movie...or should I say 'torturous' scene.
Anyway, Charles Dance's performance won over my heart for this film.

I thought Teri Polo was good too. I liked the compassion she felt for Erik.
That's what won me over with her.

Recently I bought this in a new DVD off Ebay for $5.45. Now the price is on sale for $4.91 from the same buyer. It comes from South Korea and shipping is $3. The Seller has more at "Buy it now". Here is the link if you want to buy one. The DVDs are new and perfect. I love my copy.

This movie is more than just good. It's flipping EPIC! Charles Dance is my Phantom. (Well, so is Ramin, but I'm not talking about the musical here)
